When was the exact moment that games quit being for fun?  Maybe the answer goes back as far as the Roman Empire when gladiators were voluntold to fight to the death in the name of entertainment.  Maybe it goes back even further than that.

I’ll start with football since I’m watching the Donks play the Chargers as I write this.  Last night while I was flipping through channels, I caught the NFL‘s copyright notice, which states, “This telecast is copyrighted by the NFL for the private use of our audience.  Any other use of this telecast or any pictures, descriptions, or accounts of the game without the NFL’s consent is prohibited.”  I can live with the idea that the telecast belongs to the network that airs the game (or even the NFL, depending on their contracts) given the commentary, camera operating, replays, and all of the work that the…
